Newsletter: January 2017
Dear Parent, Happy New Year!
I hope this letter finds everyone well. For the past month, Grade 8 Chinese students have been busy learning the weather chapter. Students now are able to describe the four seasons in Massachusetts. They are also able to talk about their favorite season and express if they don’t feel well. As oral assessment, each student will create a weather forecast video for a location of his/her choice.
As many of you may know, there will be a foreign language placement test for the G8 students. Students will take the test in February and will be given recommendation for next year’s foreign language placement according to the test result. The essay will be done on both February 6th and 9th. Students will use graphic organizer to plan their essay on February 6th and actually write the essay on February 9th. The other part of the test (multiple choice for vocabulary and grammar) will be on Friday, February 3rd.
Besides the regular curriculum, students are excited about Chinese New Year and its related activities. You might have heard from your child, we are going to participate in the Chinese New Year Celebration held by BCLS (Beijing Chinese Language School) on Saturday January 28th, 2017 at Shrewsbury High School Auditorium. The program will start at 1:30pm and finish at 5pm. The admission is $5 per person this year. Tickets will be sold at the door on Sunday. Our 8th Grade students will perform Chinese songs on stage. Students don’t need to stay through the whole program but they are encouraged to support others. I believe this is a great opportunity for students to extend their learning experience from classroom to the community. I understand your child might have a conflicting schedule; however, this activity is not mandatory. I’ll send more information home regarding the event and more details if necessary.
Please fill in the following form and return to me, or simply reply YES or NO with email. Feel free to contact me through email if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
ChinHuei Yeh
